Claire Reade
Chief Counsel for China Trade Enforcement
Recently appointed to the position of Chief Counsel for China Trade Enforcement by U.S. Trade Representative Susan C. Schwab, Mrs. Reade is responsible for coordinating USTR's efforts to ensure China's compliance with its international trade commitments, particularly its WTO obligations and the important commitments that China has made within the U.S.-China Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade (JCCT). Mrs. Reade also co-chairs USTR's newly formed China Enforcement Task Force.
Previously, Reade was a senior partner at the law firm of Arnold & Porter where she was a leading international trade litigator since 1982. Reade has represented U.S. and foreign clients in major international trade disputes on a wide variety of international market access and other trade issues.
Reade is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a former chair of the American Bar Association International Trade Law Section, a former chair of the ABA Council on Asia, and a frequent speaker on international trade law issues. An honors graduate of Harvard Law School, Reade also holds a Masters of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. After graduating from Harvard, Reade spent 1979 -1980 in Taipei, Taiwan, studying Chinese dispute resolution procedures under a Harvard Sheldon Fellowship, pursuing her studies in written and spoken Mandarin Chinese.
Professor Jingxia Shi
University of International Business & Economics
Prof. & Dr. Jingxia Shi earned her LL.B in 1992, Ph.D in Law (1998) from Wuhan University, China, before she commenced her teaching career in the Law School of China University of International Business & Economics (UIBE) in August 1998. She received the title of full Professorship in late 2002 as the youngest Professor in UIBE due to outstanding academic achievements and excellent teaching records.
Dr. Shi has taught in the fields of WTO law, transnational corporation law, private international law, international and comparative insolvency law. Her research interests focus on the legal issues in international investment and trade with a large amount of publications with respect to WTO trade in services and cross-border insolvency, telecommunication law, TRIPs and IPR protection in China and abroad. She is a former member of drafting committee of the Enterprises Bankruptcy Law of the PRC which was promulgated in late August 2006. Dr. Shi once stayed at the Center for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS), University of London (2000) and Law School of NYU (2003-04) as a visiting researcher. She will receive her LL.M degree from Yale Law School in 2007.
Anthony Zeuli
Partner at Merchant & Gould
Tony is a trial lawyer specializing in Intellectual Property litigation, including patent and trademark litigation. He also has considerable experience before the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Tony has handled patent and copyright litigation in China for multiple clients. He writes a regular column on IP law for the publication Bench & Bar as well as periodic articles and talks on issues related to patent litigation, especially patent claim construction. Prior to joining Merchant & Gould, Tony was a physics engineer at Argonne National Laboratory, where he was involved in numerous engineering projects associated with the study of nuclear physics.
